Hand carved “Benin Bronzes” three block linocut print on Hosho handmade paper. The piece is inspired by the West African sculptures on display at the British Museum. The Benin Bronzes are a group of more than a thousand metal plaques and sculptures that decorated the royal palace of the Kingdom of Benin in what is now modern-day Nigeria. The earliest examples date back to the thirteenth century and were created by the Edo people. The Gazania flower is native to Southern Africa. They come in bright shades of yellow and orange and have a daisy like shape. I liked the combination of the brighter flower in contrast to the earthier bronzes. This is a handcrafted piece produced using three carved lino blocks. Each one has been individually hand pressed using traditional printmaking methods. Included with the print is a white cardboard picture mount border. They are packed within a protective sleeve with a card back for a safe delivery. • Paper size 28.5 x 40cm (11.2 x 15.7 inches) The print is unframed and includes a white border around the printed area for the mount.
